    In the early morning of October 29, 2018, Beijing Time, the 2018 International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition (iGEM) came to an end at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, USA. After the team CPU_CHINA won the gold medal in 2017, the team continued to compete this year with 343 teams from 42 countries around the world. After a week of intense presentations and posters, it ended up standing out in numerous participating teams and won the gold medal again. They won the gold medal in the highest international academic competition in the field of synthetic biology for two years, showing the style of our students and the progress of undergraduate education in recent years.

    The CPU_CHINA team was formed by the School of Science at the end of 2015. It is affiliated to the CPU Bio_X Club community under the College of Innovation and Entrepreneurship of the School of Science. Mr. Huang Hui is the instructor and all of the teammates are from the club. The students participating in the 2018 IGEM competition are from the School of Pharmacy, the School of Chinese Medicine, the School of Science, and the School of Life Science and Technology. There are 13 students who are specialized in science, pharmacy, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutical preparations, pharmaceutical analysis, Chinese medicine, information management and information systems in the team.     In this competition, the CPU_CHINA team developed a genetic therapy strategy to target hepatocellular carcinoma based on conditional RNA interference —Rig. Under the AND gating of the cancer cell-specific promoter hTERT and the liver cancer-specific promoter HULC, the therapy targets the cancer cell high expression protein MAP4K4 by the action of microRNA and the Tet-Off system and then kills cancer cells. It is worth noting that the system can be used for the treatment of other diseases, such as Parkinson's and atherosclerosis, by replacing specific promoters and targets of certain diseases. And the team established a pharmacokinetic model based on the queuing network and the Markov process liposome delivery model and cost-benefit analysis to guide the project.     The International Genetic Engineering Machine Competition (iGEM) began in 2005 and was originally hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It is the highest international academic competition in the field of synthetic biology. In 2017, the CPU-CHINA team of China Pharmaceutical University participated in the iGEM competition and won the gold medal in many teams. Since the establishment of the CPU_CHINA team in July 2017, we have worked hard and innovated under the strong support of our School of Life Science and Technology, the School of Science, the International Exchange and Cooperation Office, the Student Affairs Office, and the Academic Affairs Office.
