Research Summary

Dr. Zhao’s research focuses on affinity chromatography, including the design of novel affinity chromatography materials and their applications in bioanalysis.

1. Design of novel affinity materials for proteome analysis, such as immobilized metal ion affinity chromatography(IMAC) for phosphopeptide enrichment and endotoxin removal, boronateaffinity chromatography (BAC) for specific isolation and enrichment of cis-diol-containing biomolecules (carbohydrates, glycoproteins, RNA,nucleosides and endotoxins), etc.

2. Molecular recognition of biomarkers (i.e. phosphoproteins, glycoproteins) in bodily fluids by means of molecular imprinting.

3. Ultrasensitive detection of glycoproteins using surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS).

4. Solid-phase labeling of saccharides within mesoporous materials.

5. Stimuli-responsive materials for drug delivery.
