Research Summary

The enantioseparation of chiral drugs by capillary electrophoresis (CE).

Chirality has been and still remains a major issue in drugdevelopment and modern pharmaceutical industrybecause enantiomers of racemic drugs may exhibit differentphysiological activities as well as different even oppositepharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic effects. Therefore, analytical methods of high efficiency and selectivity are required for both safety and industrial monitoring of theenantiomericpurity of chiral drugs. CE hasproven to be a challenging separation tool for the stereoselectiveanalysisowing to itsmajor advantages, including highseparation efficiency and resolution power, feasibility, fastanalysis, low consumptions of sample, solvent and chiralselector, as well as its high flexibility in choosing andchanging types of selectors.
